To close the year 2025, Florence (who leads our small and constantly evolving choir) gave us quite a challenge: to sing Christmas songs in our city of Namur! Although the idea truly frightened me, the group was literally “super excited.” But despite our good intentions, things did not turn out to be that simple…
All our requests to sing in the streets or on public squares were refused (the reason given: the Christmas market). Requests to sing in nursing homes and in a refugee center were not accepted because our songs were “Christian.” We were even ready to sing in the train station… Once again: refused.
Nevertheless, we did not stop rehearsing—quite the opposite—because we knew the Lord had not spoken His final word. After several weeks of prayer, we received a positive response from the nursing home “Le Clair Séjour,” where the mother of one of our church members lives. After three months of rehearsals, we were ready, by the grace of God.
So we went to sing on Saturday, December 27. Even though there may have been a few wrong notes, our audience was delighted! The atmosphere was truly warm. Afterwards, with the help of ADRA Namur, we organized a small afternoon snack for them (cakes and cocoa). It was a wonderful opportunity to talk and laugh with them! Through this initiative, we hope we were able to pass on a little of Jesus’ love.
