Afternoon of the biblical quiz

On Saturday, January 25, minds were once again put to the test as thirty teams participated in the Biblical Quiz. At least within our Federation… because let’s not forget that this event brings together five entities: our Federation, the two French Federations, the one from French-speaking Switzerland, and the Union of the Netherlands.

The principle has remained unchanged for over 20 years: answering questions about a biblical theme or book. Through the answers and certain letters placed in a grid, an enigma gradually emerges. The goal of the game is to decipher the solution to this enigma and communicate it as quickly as possible to the central team.

This year, it seems that French-speaking adults had fewer difficulties solving the challenges than their Dutch-speaking counterparts. However, everyone agreed that they had a great time, especially as the afternoon ended with some sweet treats and the satisfaction of having done their best.

Among the younger participants, several non-native groups unfortunately had to give up, as it is very difficult to research when every question and answer needs to be translated and reasoning must be done in a language that is not necessarily one’s mother tongue. We want to commend them all the more for their effort.

A unique achievement in the Children/Adventurers category: all registered groups found the correct answer. Some were faster than others due to being larger in number or better prepared, but that doesn’t matter—congratulations to everyone!

Some acknowledgments are also in order: first, to the puzzle creators in the different regions, especially Carlos Rivero, who contributed significantly to writing the Adult puzzle. Then to Luc Delameillieure for translating and adapting the Adult enigma for Flanders and the Netherlands, and finally to Jackie Mubedi for his loyal presence over many years at the day’s telephone center.

The next edition is set for the last Sabbath of Janary 2026…
