On 1 October we took on a new 60% pastor. You probably already know her: she is Isabelle Willekens, the wife of our Youth leader Jérôme Raucy.
In 2014-2015, when Jérôme answered the call and chose to start studying theology at Collonges after a career in cabinet-making, the family followed… And Isabelle took advantage of the opportunity to be a stone’s throw from the Faculty to take a few courses between two odd jobs to pay for the studies. But she never thought of taking up a pastorate one day. But the ways of the Lord are often surprising, and from course to course, school year to school year, the idea made its way. Until it came to fruition quite recently.
It has to be said that writing her dissertation played its part. By studying the text of 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, where the apostle Paul explains that he has made himself all things to all people, Isabelle took her reflection a step further. What is Paul really saying? In what context did he write these lines? What are the challenges and risks of making ourselves all things to all people? Based on an analysis of a number of projects for secularised people and so-called cultural churches, Isabelle reflected on the different perspectives and possible courses of action for our Federation. There’s no doubt that this final dissertation will be a good basis for her work within our churches or for further reflection.
Isabelle’s pastoral internship began in the Liège church under the supervision of Edouard Ajinça. If you come across her, you’ll have the chance to meet a young woman who is sensitive and close to people. Her previous studies and her professional background as an educator will certainly be an asset, not forgetting her passion for exegesis.
After Thirza van den Broek and Marcelo Reis, here is a new couple to enrich our pastoral team. However, the Federation Committee is still well aware of the shortage of pastors on the Dutch-speaking side. There should be some good news in the coming months… Let’s continue to pray and support all our pastors, without forgetting that we are all called to spread the Good News to our contemporaries.
